Paying for Coffee Down Under
Coffee addicts, it seems, fret about the price and underlying forces driving those prices no matter where they call home. ABC News in Australia yesterday posted a piece about the factors that go into a cup of coffee. Notably (and, perhaps, obviously) the article points out that the beans account for only a fraction of the ultimate price of the beverage. A much greater portion of the price goes toward things such as rent. Applied locally, this would seem to indicate that a cup of joe will cost significantly more in New York than Austin. Well, maybe not Austin – the city’s changing. But you get the idea.
